Kaunas County Public Library (KCPL) as the center of methodology and teaching of the public libraries in Kaunas and Marijampole county municipalities (regional libraries), prepare and execute non-formal adult education programs, which focuses on two target groups: professionals from regional libraries and adults in Kaunas region. International experience is very important for KCPL staff to maintain the high quality of these activities and teaching/learning innovations. It will ensure not only the growth of professional competence, foreign language and communication skills, but also will improve new methodological, social and managerial competencies, like planning, organizing and coordinating. The aim of this project is to take over and to integrate the international experience, by creating a higher quality of teaching/learning process, based on the latest ICT and fulfilling the needs of Kaunas regional library professionals and individuals; to promote an open, accessible and available distance learning, by applying advanced training methods and tools, thus expanding the opportunities for adults with special needs or socially excluded to take part in lifelong learning.The selection of participants will be carried out to implement the activities of the project. 6 professionals from KCPL, whose work activities relate to adult education: training and planning, coordinating, organizing and disseminating the process, will be selected. Priority will be given to those professionals who have acquired qualification of adult teacher (andragogue) and those who respond to the aim and needs of the project best: to develop and to gain new competencies, to improve knowledge, that could be used for creating attractive and quality adult education services in KCPL; to share and take over the international experience; to establish and actively expand partnerships; to improve foreign language skills.Selected professionals from KCPL will go to EU countries for job shadowing/observation: 3 to Ventspils (Latvia) and 3 to Sello (Finland) libraries. Participants will observe adult education activities that are based on a new teaching and learning approach, learn from the experience of professionals, share and exchange ideas, discuss about teaching process in organizations and new teaching strategies. They will also discuss about communication strategies with existing and new customers in libraries, especially those who experiencing social exclusion; will analyze the environment, new information technologies and ICT tools for training and learning. Creating partnership with EU libraries will allow further co-operation and knowledge exchange by sharing new ideas and opportunities in the future. Contacts with EU libraries were established in preparation of Erasmus+ project. The coordinator of the project adjusted the basic date, time, number of participants and other organizational matters by e-mail. The opportunities of development, key competencies, that the staff from KCPL seek to gain, and preliminary plans were discussed and registration of participant confirmed preliminary. If the financial support is received, contracts with the host organizations and participants will be signed, under the requirements of the Erasmus+. The coordinator of the project will also use Mobility Tool+ system to ensure proper management of the project, by maintaining the information about the mobility, participants and activities. Participant accordingly will mark their changes, fill in reports.Expected results and impacts of the project. First of all, qualified and knowledgeable staff will develop an action plan to strengthen activities of the non-formal adult education in KCPL. The needs of adults will be met by offering interesting, innovative and attractive training topics. Increased access to education will provide an opportunity for adults to engage in lifelong learning activities, particularly to those with special needs or socially excluded. Partnership with the EU libraries will provide new international experiences and will promote further exchange of knowledge.New experiences and competencies of the participants will be integrated into daily activities of the whole organization and in each person’s daily responsibilities in adult education field. New skills will encourage new practice, expanding and improving the quality of adult education activities. New ideas will help to achieve KCPL strategic development goals in the future and to become the leading public library in the country, which combines real and virtual communities, activities based on innovations, professionalism, openness and reliable partnership.
