“Let’s Talk about Sex: Exploring EU Models to Sexual Health Education”is a project implemented through four activities: two advanced panning visit (APV),one to take place in Berlin,Germany, and another in Ključ,BiH, and two youth exchanges (YEs)–one to take place in Potsdam,Germany and the other in Ključ,BiH. First YE will take place between 07.10.-15.10.2016 and it will host 40 youth from 8 countries (Bulgaria,France,Germany, taly,Romania,Serbia,Turkey,Ukraine) while YE in BiH will take place between 04.11.-12.11.2016 and will host 45 youth from 9 countries (Albania, osnia and Herzegovina,Czech Republic,Germany, taly,Latvia, Poland,Serbia,Turkey). The project is organized and implemented by Potsdam based Mostar Friedensprojekt e.V. and 15 partners from 12 countries. Against the background of sexual health education models in different European countries we will explore the topic of holistic sexual education and its 7 elements in order to equip youth with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values they need to determine and enjoy their sexuality and to encourage the view of sexuality within the context of emotional and social development. Specific project objectives aims to provide participants with accurate information on sexual and reproductive rights, dispel myths related to sexuality, develop skills such as critical thinking, communication and self-development, ability to ask questions, nurture open-mindedness and respect for self and others and positive attitude toward their sexual and reproductive health. The project aims to create safe environment in which open discussion and exchange of experiences can take place allowing participants in the same time to see the greater context and potential to apply new ideas in their work and improve and enrich their non-formal education initiatives. One of the important objectives is intercultural learning, networking and mutual support among youth. Participating youth are coming from different European areas and backgrounds. Some of them, like participants from Germany, have regular access to sexual health information through school curriculum while participants from Turkey lack this access to reliable information through schooling system and rely mostly on non-formal educational initiatives in their communities and media to gain information related to sexuality and sexual health. This level of inconsistency in quality, frequency of delivery and of relevance of sexuality education and information across Europe varies immensely and affects youth, in particular minorities, geographically and economically marginalized youth, & refugees. This can have grave consequences in a world in which mobility is both promoted & facilitated. Therefore, the project is designed to create safe space for learning, networking, raising capacities and international dimension of partner organizations so they are able to offer activities and programs that better respond to the needs of individuals. The project will ultimately increase self-empowerment & self-esteem of participating youth, improve their language and communication competences, enhance inter-cultural awareness and encourage active participation in their communities and increase motivation for taking part in future education or training after the mobility period abroad. During the 9-day YEs a variety of non-formal and informal methods of working with youth will be used: workshops, group discussions, presentations, games, icebreakers, energizers, study visits & meetings, individual & group activities, networking techniques, teamwork, feedback, process evaluation etc. The expected impact of the project and its activities are: acquiring comprehensive knowledge of holistic sexuality education approach and adopting new understanding of sexuality within the context of emotional and social development, increasing interest and engagement in the topic of sexuality health and sexuality education and motivation to share the newly acquired information and skills with their peers in their own organizations and communities, acquiring ability to openly communicate about this important topic in their communities, nurture open-mindedness and respect for self and others and promote positive attitude toward their sexual and reproductive health, acquiring knowledge on Europe wide attitudes and policies towards sexuality education as well as work of other orgs., acquiring the greater context and potential to apply new ideas in their youth work, improving their communication and discussion skills, as well as critical thinking skills which they are expected to transfer to their peers, gaining solid networking skills and having exposure to international group of peers is expected to motivate participant to explore ways of cooperation, create a network of organizations working in the field of sexuality health education in order to support each other’s work and possibly develop follow up/joint projects within the framework of Erasmus +.
