Project context We are the biggest elementary school in the district Bytča with 817 pupils and 65 teachers. The school is involved in projects that help to improve the school environment, the climate in the classroom and to respond to current problems. The school has a long tradition and experience with extended teaching of foreign languages. There are fourteen teachers of foreign languages and six classrooms for teaching foreign languages with the possibility of using ICT (computer, projector, interactive software). Pupils start learning English in Year 1. The school looks for innovative, creative and committed teachers who are willing to continuously upgrade their pedagogical education and to devote to personal development. Project objectives:- send two teachers abroad (the UK) for the purpose of personal and professional development, - improve the teaching and learning of languages and promote the EU’s broad linguistic diversity and intercultural awareness,- acquire knowledge, skills and competences in the light of current trends in methodology contributing to the development and modernization of the school, - increase the motivation of project participants,- disseminate acquired competences towards other educational staff, students and general public.The number and profile of participantsTwo participants have been chosen by the school – Mgr. Mária Hrabovská and PaedDr. Mária Konečná. They are teachers of English for lower secondary education. They have never attended a structural course abroad. They cooperate on projects and competitions. They are responsible for multicultural education. There are other twelve teachers of foreign languages in the school. Other teachers cannot participate in the structural courses for personal reasons.Methods and activities:- participation in structured courses - Methodology and English Language for Secondary Teachers, Teaching English through Multiple Intelligences (Pilgrims Teacher Training in Canterbury),- finding a partner school in eTwinning and participate in eTwinning,- Erasmus plus presentation on the school website,- web page "Let's Motivate" (presentation of the project, innovative methods and forms of work, information on training, the output of eTwinning),- publication of articles in the regional press,- training for teachers of foreign languages in our school,- dissemination of the project for primary schools in the region.The expected results and impactAs a result of attending the course Methodology and English language for secondary teachers, the participants will be more confident, creative and knowledgeable teachers of secondary students. They will also be encouraged to reassess their 'teacher beliefs and attitudes' in the light of current trends in methodology. They will also be more competent and confident users of English.As a result of attending the course Teaching English through Multiple Intelligences, the participants will be more knowledgeable practitioners and will acquire new tools they need to reach out to all their students. This course is designed to help teachers understand more about how students learn. The course will bring teachers into contact with recent thinking and approaches to teaching related to Multiple Intelligences. It will enable teachers to be able to adapt the theory of Multiple Intelligence in the classroom. It will also deal with issues of assessment and evaluation. The course will also help teachers reflect on creating a successful climate for learning which, in turn, will enhance their own enjoyment of teaching.Long-term benefits:- greater motivation and satisfaction in everyday work,- internationalization strategy - enhanced cooperation with partners in other countries (eTwinning, other participants of structured courses),- innovative and improved modes of operation towards the target groups,- improved methods and forms of work with pupils.
