Let's get bizzy: London Calling
Date du début: 1 juin 2016, Date de fin: 31 mai 2018 PROJET  TERMINÉ

In the secondary schools of Eeklo, Maldegem and Zelzate - all located in the economically important area between the ports of Zeebrugge, Antwerp and Ghent and also near the Euregio Scheldemond – we have long been working on qualitative guidance and implementation of training periods for our students. We think our courses and the training programs need to be realistic and that’s why we are constantly looking for new trends and innovations. We try our best to offer interesting internships to our students in their final years, but we feel that we are still limited in our possibilities. In our educational project we strongly stress the European character of our society and that’s why are in search for a European project that can bring our internships to a broader level. With this European project we want to combine course-related knowledge, qualitative trainingship and European focus to reach a higher level of education. To achieve this aim we would like to send twenty of our vocational students to London for a trainingship in various London companies for a fortnight. Their fields of study are bookkeeping and computer science. We choose these students specifically because many of them didn’t make a conscious choice for this course. They ended up in this vocational field because they failed courses in general education. In addition, these pupils are having a hard time to be motivated to learn English vocabulary specifically related to their field of study and show interest in extra communicative language assignments. These students would now stay in host families during those two weeks and work in London companies, in which they would acknowledge the importance of language in a European society first-hand. so they would be able to use and improve their social competences. Next to these students, three teachers would accompany the participants in London. The main purpose is to assist and guide our students, where necessary, but also to gain a wider experience they can use in future classroom practice. To arrange everything practically, we will be working together with the London ADC-College. We are convinced our students will acquire a lot of extra subject-related knowledge and competences, will take more initiative, and by doing this they‘ll become more entrepreneurial and flexible. Moreover their English language skills will grow immensely. Summarised, they will be more competitive in a larger European context in which they will study, work and live later on, also because of their growing self-awareness.Furthermore we are convinced the benefits of this practical experience won’t be limited to our particular schools. Through our wide network, consisting of our own school groups, community groups, contact with local and national press, regional authorities and companies, public and private international contacts, we will be able to share the positive effects and experiences. We will become a kind of ambassador to spread the goals and information acquired in the project. By participating in this interesting project we would like to contribute to the qualitative formation of empowered, independent and happy European citizens.
