LENTEC - Learning English for Technical Purposes

Within LENTEC, both guidelines and curriculum models will be developed to better prepare individual students in being able to cope with the reality of working within an international work force.Building upon a previously-funded Leonardo da Vinci project (TENTEC), which focussed upon the development of innovative teaching methods in teaching English for technical purposes, LENTEC is to promote English language learning for technical purposes across the curriculum and across land borders by placing emphasis on the learning experiences of students in simulated work-based experience. An on-line digital learning environment will be developed and implemented to allow for individual learners to work in a common environment, in English, to discuss and review common problems or issues that they may face within their future careers. The platform will further enable foreign language teachers to develop both skills and experience in the on-line tutoring of students.A series of materials and tools will be developed beyond the digital learning environment to include; guidelines for teachers, guidelines for foreign language curriculum development, guidelines for problem-based learning (PBL) and a range of papers produced on the integration of both technical and foreign language learning to support PBL.An industry model will be developed for the evaluation and assessment of student products with emphasis on self-assessment, enabling trade and industry to provide advice on curriculum and language competencies, and further bringing students and teachers/trainers together in a face-to-face situation to evaluate individual work projects. All results will feature on a dedicated website (in EN) and beyond this, partners will present articles in their own language for publication in the appropriate national education & trade journals. All partners will organise information workshops on project results in their respective countries and a final international conference will be jointly held to further disseminate project outputs and achievements.
