Elementary School Jozefa Ignáca Bajzu v Predmieri is a state primary school with a small number of pupils. The focus of school: JA (language) - PO (computers, motion) - NEC (learn ecologically feel). At school we focused on these educational priorities: develop the communication skills of students in Slovak and foreign language in digital technologies, social relationships, promote the development of movement and cognitive skills of students in school and extracurricular activities, helping pupils with special educational needs and encourage talented students to provide quality basic education for the prevention of social pathologies. Directions of the school is in its name: Z (health) S (sport) P (computers) R (language) E (ecology) D (spiritual growth) M (material and technical development) I (individual growth of students and teachers) E (empathetic rozvoj) R (regional sensibilities). English language is taught from the first grade.
The aim of project was to send 2 teaching staff, 1 teacher from first grade and 1 from second, to the UK in order to their personal and professional development, acquisition and improvement of professional competence and the contribute to the development, modernization and internationalization of our school, improve readiness to change in terms of international relations, improving the quality of teaching and learning. We fulfilled the aim of the project: activities have a positive and lasting impact not only on the teaching staff, but also for the whole school and surroundings and elementary schools in the region and their teaching staff. Pilgrims, University of Kent, was project partner.
Ing. Zuzana Bočková, teacher for lower secondary education, Approbation English language, Technology and World of work with a length of 14 year teaching experience, taught English 20 lessons a week and is the leader subject commission of Language and communication. The course SPECIAL NEEDS AND INCLUSIVE LEARNING was draw on related disciplines such as Educational Therapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming and aimed to enable participants to develop successful strategies for inclusive teaching. It required self-reflection and a commitment to personal development. The many challenging and fun activities were invaluable for the English language teacher. At school we have students with specific learning disabilities, including dyslexia and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). She wanted to reach out to these students and help them fulfill their potential. The course learnt ways of creating a proactive approach of accepting differences in class, she learnt to identify pupils with specific learning disabilities and strategies to help them learn. She became familiar with methods to promote inclusive education and how to take differences in the classroom.
Mgr. Zdenka Klusová, teacher for primary education (1st grade) up to 4 years of teaching experience and passing the state exam in English at level B2, taught English at 1st grade of school 8 lessons a week. The course METHODOLOGY AND LANGUAGE FOR PRIMARY TEACHERS aimed to provide the participants with state of the art theories and practice in teaching Young Learners. In addition, the strong language element embedded resulted in the participants’ development of their language skills. The aim of the course was to develop personal language competences (fluency and accuracy of expression) and the acquisition of competencies in planning appropriate activities for teaching the language. In the past she took several courses on the use of games, personalization and dramatization in language teaching. Her priority is that pupils enjoy learning English language and to have built the first primary school a positive attitude towards learning English.
During the project we focused on the use of innovative methods in the teaching process, dialogues, development of communication skills in games, the use of songs and drama.
We carried out the following activities:
- Publication of article in newspapers Žilinský večerník: Osobný a profesionálny rozvoj učiteľov a program Erasmus+ and the school website
- Open lessons, providing expert advice to colleagues and teachers from other schools, individual interviews Erasmus + and spread the experience of learning mobility
- Demonstration activities during the meeting on specific subjects and methodical associations
- Participation in workshop,Trencin, presentation of the project
- Organizing a workshop for teachers of neighboring schools about learning opportunities abroad and Erasmus +, presentation of the activities and experience gained from mobility in the UK to increase pupils' motivation to learn
- Creating a slideshow, posted on school website
- report on the school website, a report on the Subject Commission Language and Communication and Methodical Associations
- Create videos of stay in the UK (posted on website, youtube, facebook)
