PROJET
TERMINÉ
Young people and children are today less active in terms of physical activity. The leisure time of the children and the young has
become more organised and more dependent on youth associations and sport clubs. These associations are in turn struggling to
find competent professionals and commited volunteer workers.
Consequently, the high level of drop-outs and drop-offs are result of the associations and clubs being unable to meet the demands
and expectations of young people and children. It begs the question: Can we offer more to the young people we work with? How
can we make our activities more attractive? In addition to leisure activities can we emphasis more on learning social skills and
personal competences?
We feel that as the problem is too complex for any single organisation to solve and it can best be worked out via European level
collaboration. The partnership of this project has gathered to establish a network of non-profit European youth and grassroots
football organisations. Within network the partners intend to develop innovative methods for promoting informal as well as nonformal learning in grassroots sports environment.
The partnership will organise an youth exchange for Spanish and Finnish young people, aged 13-15 years. Out of 60 participants
there will be at least 35 young people with economic and social disadvantages. For them the exchange is the first contact with other
cultures and the first travel abroad.
The exchange contains a week long program focused to support the learning and self-assesment, not forgetting the fun part: games,
plays, sightseeing and making friends! Big emphasis is placed on involvement of the young themselves. The participants are
planning, implementing as well as evaluating of the exchange process.
As a result, the participants are expected to improve
communication in the mother tongue as well as in foreign languages, cultural awareness and expression and social skills.
The most significant improvement, however, is expected in participants self-awareness and ability to learn. Exchange period will
help the participants to understand each other and different cultures. This will in turn to help them understand their own thoughts
and values in regards to how one is growing up; what does one want to be and do? how does one live and cooperate with others?
how does one learn?
The expected impact on participating organizations is a strengthened partnership and cooperation and ideas for future projects.
Also organisation should improve the very understanding of their youth work, its core purposes and practices. After the project all
the organisations should have clearer and more intentional (non-formal) educational dimension integrated in their work and that
should also be clearly communicated to the young people.
