Learning outcome-oriented European training concept for the „collision repair process management“

When the car service business is analyzed more closely it appears that the “collision repair process management” usually accounts to 60% of the workshops‘ turnover. Additionally, in this business branch all over Europe overproportinate high amounts of coverage are achieved. To allow the car repair shops to protect this field of operations against the insurance companies, the accident claims settlement has to be moved into the center of their operating performance. To this end professional acting employees are necessary who need to be trained accordingly. Furthermore, a technical structure for communication is needed for all participants (workshop employees, manufacturers, suppliers, legal advisers and estimators). The first of such “damage claims networks” were established in 2009 (e.g. by BMW, Ford, Opel and Toyota) together with insurance companies and enabled the development and evaluation of well-structured data on a rather small scale. Further development of such “damage claims networks” including the linking of insurance companies and regarding the interfaces with existing workshop management systems, are in full swing. All parties concerned agree that these measures need to be taken all over Europe. In order to secure a good standing for car repair shops, this line of business needs to be managed professionally in all car repair shops across Europe. However, the employees’ qualifications are currently lagging behind the technical development. Despite the courses offered by the automotive manufacturers for further training in the handling of “damage claims networks”, a “holistic” implementation of collision damage management is still lacking. The main objective of the project was to implement and transfer an innovative, European-oriented continuing vocational education and training concept for “collision repair process management” that is linked to ECVET. Employees of car repair shops, training institutions and organizations in the respective partner countries have been qualified to act as disseminators in order to subsequently act as experts (“carriers of know how”). An assignment of the profile to the EQF and NQFs has been done accordingly.
