Within a European context which strongly promotes the establishment of a common European citizenship and identity, “Learning in Europe”, is a project aiming at developing in our school staff a better knowledge of European teaching systems, working with key international organizations to respond effectively to the new global educational challenges. Being aware of the differences in the countries’ policies, practices and educational contexts, the present project provides the promotion of an intercultural exchange of information and best practices for the applicant participants in a motivating, international context. The projects fully matches the innovative process that the Italian school system is undergoing at the moment and we strongly believe that the classical humanistic background (ancient Greek Latin, Italian and Philosophy) should face the challenges and expectations of a globalized world. Enhancing the school staff language abilities and acquiring the latest and best teaching/learning strategies according to International standards, is crucial if we want to ensure our active participation to the process of modernization of our school system.The objectives of the project can be summed up as follows:• Knowledge of different school systems and policies• Improving English language skills• Taking an active role in the European cultural debate .The planned activities will include:• English language courses at different levels for teachers and administrative personnel• Refreshing courses and workshops on curricular subjects (Philosophy, Art, Literature and Maths)• Jobshadowing activities in partner schools or other educational based institutionsThe activities will be focused on active participation and desirable outputs are:• Effective development of comunicative skill in the foreign language• Improvement of teaching/learning techniques• Planning of more motivating activities for students• Development of life skills• Promotion of common European cultural values• Active participation in the international cultural debate• Re-definition of knowledge according to the modern European standardsLong -term benefits will be• Improvement of communicative skills with International partners• Increased awareness of different teaching approaches• Wider acceptance of cultural diversities as opportunities for an inclusive education• Sharing ideas on different cultural and social issues • Greater awareness of European citizenshipThe applicants include administrative personnel, foreign language teachers or teachers using the CLIL methodology as well as curricular subjects staff who want to cope with the latest didactic strategies, i.e. laboratory methodology and other innovative teaching aids.As for the partners and courses, contacts have been taken with the following: ) Finlandia - Structured Study Visit to Schools/Institutes & Training Seminar in Finland - Helsinki2) Svezia - Job Shadowing at Önnestad Upper Secondary School -Kristianstad3) UK - The Human Mind Conference - Faculty of Philosophy, University of Cambridge- Cambridge4) Finlandia - PISA - Finnish and European education systems - Joensuu, Finland (Teacher training course on a comparison of different European educational systems)5) Belgio - SHAPE Language Centre ( Course of General English plus basic Business English- Mons6) Scozia - Focused Group Study Full-time - Basil Paterson College, Edinburgh ( Full intensive English course)7) Belgio - SHAPE Language Centre - Mons- (Course of General English plus basic Business English)
