Learning by Living
Date du début: 1 juin 2016, Date de fin: 31 mai 2018 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The context of the Learning by Living -project is based on national (The Ministry of Education and Culture, Finnish National Board of Education) and international (European Comission, European Economic and Social Comittee) goals in validation of skills and qualifications acquired through non-formal and informal learning. The systematic validation of skills and qualifications acquired through non-formal and informal learning helps to create personal and flexible studying paths, decreases the overlapping of the studies, shortens the time to achieve the qualification and makes the studying process more economical and effective. The objective of this project is to develop an evaluation mechanism to systematically validate the skills and qualifications acquired through non-formal and informal learning during the on-the-job learning period abroad. The long-term plan is to widen the use of this developed evaluation mechanism also in other learning processes in the organisation. In the Learning by Living -project there is going to be 18 on-the-job learning periods arranged during the academic year 2016-2017 and another 18 on-the-job learning periods arranged during the academic year 2017-2018. To support the development work of the evaluation mechanism, there will be four staff member mobilities during the project. The vocational qualifications that the student participants are studying is not pre-defined, but students from every qualification programme implemented by VAAO are qualified to apply in the transparent application process which also includes personal learning needs and goals in the criteria. In the project there will be personal agreement and evaluation forms created for every participant attending the on-the-job learning period abroad. In these personalized forms the specific focus is on defining beforehand the learning goals based on the knowlegde, skills and competences which the participant is missing on a personal level. Also the focus is on planning the possible learning goals to be validated afterwards that will be acquired through non-formal and informal learning. During the on-the-job learning periods the participants self-evaluate their notes of learning achievements through non-formal and informal learning to an electric platform also to be created in the project. After the on-the-job period the teacher responsible for the evaluation evaluates and validates the knowlegde, skills and competences from the non-formal and informal learning process and further develops the electrical reporting and evaluation mechanism. From the student's point of view the most important result of the project is to have new possibilities for faster and more flexible personal study paths to achieve the vocational qualification. From the organisation's point of view the main impact is on having a more organised and structured process in validating student's knowledge, skills and competences acquired through non-formal and informal learning. In addition, a possibility to widen the use of this this process to other evaluation on a local and regional level gives a lot of added value to the project. The results and experiences of this project can be shared and informed to many public and private sector instances such as private companies, public sector employers, employment agencies and voluntary organisations. With this shared information the concept of non-formal and informal learning can be made more visible to the community and it is possible to add awareness of its meaning and value.
