"Learning and living democracy"
Date du début: 1 août 2015, Date de fin: 31 déc. 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Young people need space, tools and support for active democratic participation in communities. "Learning and living democracy“ was a project, in which young people from Finland, Romania and Germany met each other from 30th of October till 8th of November 2015 at the Europahaus in Aurich, Germany. The aim of these young people was to receive a common understanding about democracy among young people and skills needed in democracy. Together we looked at what kind of democratic structures already exist in our communities, how those structures work (i.e student council and youth parliament) and what kind of skills are needed to work within these structures. We used the information to develop democratic skills among young people. The project was used as a "future workshop" platform where young people can concretely define what kind of skills must be obtained for the future (i.e presenting skills, speech skills, PC-skills etc.), because we wanted to empower young people to take more active role in their community. On the other hand we hope that this project has future impact on local communities. We hope to create a model of "learning democratic skills - workshop" where young people can learn democratic skills together and from each other. We believe that student councils and youth parliaments as tools for participation and well being of young people are very good examples of democratic learning in our societies. However, we need new, innovating ways for participation and learning skills. Democracy is something which can only be learned by practicing, and by learning skills which support democracy. Thus we were asking, is it possible to find other/new ways, tools, innovations and ideas to improve democratic learning among young people? And how will those structures look like? How can young people take more active role in learning democratic skills? Support of democratic structures and democratic learning among young people varies from country to country. Young people should also have the chance on international level to exchange ideas about participation. We need to make the learning of democratic skills among young people a more visible and normal practice all over the EU.
