Language Training
Date du début: 1 juin 2015, Date de fin: 31 mai 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The project involved an immersion course in Lille, France, for teachers of French at secondary level from all over Europe. The immersion course was run by LEAP (Language Education and Partnerships Ltd.), which is an established course provider, delivering expert educational and training services for educators. There are usually around 15-20 participants on each course. There were 6 days of classes, taught by a trained native speaker who is, herself, a qualified teacher, as well as cultural visits. The course was conducted entirely in the target language, i.e. French, and participants were expected to converse in this languages at all times, including during meals and other social gatherings, where possible. The training sessions involved the introduction of new teaching strategies and the facilitator will demonstrated how these can be used in the classroom. There was discussion and debate of current educational methodology, information on current French personalities, films and songs with ideas on how these can be used in the classroom, alongside ideas on how to better use ICT in teaching and learning. Objectives of the course included enhancing participants’ discursive skills, updating their vocabulary and allowing them to gain new ideas and materials for use in the classroom as well as enhancing methodological expertise in the teaching of French to teenagers. This course provided invaluable benefits firstly to the participant, Jennifer Orr, a teacher of French in Northern Ireland. She has a strong desire and interest in maintaining a high level of French in order to teach it at A Level in future. There will be a clear impact on the pupils at all levels who she will teach in the future and on the school as a whole, as the participant teacher passed on the material from the courses and the ideas acquired to her colleagues in the Modern Languages department and perhaps, to other interested parties in the future. Through participation in the project, the school has had the opportunity to establish and develop links with other educators around Europe, which may prove useful for collaboration in the future.
