This application is for 3 class teachers from Burnbrae Primary School to attend the immersion course in Salignac to develop their French speaking skills and experience French culture. Embedding the 1+2 Language Approach is a priority in Midlothian Council and this would allow the school to fulfil this.The key staff will build on the work that has already been done to embed the French in their school. This will be achieved by sharing the knowledge and skills with all staff through training sessions and professional dialogue. This will up skill all staff which will impact on Burnbrae learners. Having knowledgeable and confident teachers will increase children’s ability to learn French (L2). Further down the line, the concepts about language embedded through learning French will impact on the learning of Mandarin (L3). Through inspiring Interdisciplinary Learning projects and greater use of French in routines we aim to have French woven through the whole curriculum in a coherent and stimulating way. Learners will be highly engaged by E-twinning projects which provide a purpose for learning which will be supported by creative use of ICT. The key staff are excited about sharing their knowledge and skills with a wider audience in the many ways detailed previously. They will be ambassadors for the 2017 Immersion Course and look forward to being able to enthuse others.Through attending the Immersion Course we will be able to provide richer learning experiences for our children. The impact of this will be improved language capacity and greater enthusiasm and confidence among our learners. This will result in an increased uptake of languages in secondary school.Our learners will need a multitude of skills in order to be equipped for life and work in an increasingly diverse society. Understanding cultural diversity is crucial to living and working with others. Our long term aim is that learners are able to fulfil their potential and be armed with valuable life skills for future employment. This will enrich their life experiences and open doors for worldwide opportunities.
