Two teachers have applied and hope to attend the 1 week immersion course in Lyon, France 2015. Building upon the current implementation and development of languages within the school, both staff members are keen to build their expertise up in order to help employ the 1+2 Approach to its fullest potential within Riveriside Primary and within the wider context of the educational establishments within West Lothian. Both teachers have an understanding of the need to provide learners with opportunities to develop their understanding of cultural differences, global citizenship as well as providing this within a cross-curricular manner. An opportunity to further explore how this is done, through the LFEE course, would provide both practitioners with a much stronger base on which to expand their teaching.
In conjunction with the Scottish Government's Policy to ensure two languages are embedded at primary level, an opportunity for our two teachers to gain more training and knowledge will inevitably impact on the successful implementation this policy within schools. Both teachers have traveled within Europe and beyond and are enthusiastic about learning languages and building and developing their already established teaching skills. A chance to develop both these elements abroad in a different context would be a fantastic opportunity of which both practitioners would find very rewarding. The impact that this course would be immediate which is echoed during the invaluable experience both teachers have already acquired through attending the Professional Language Learning French course. There is also a thought to complete the Spanish immersion course in 2016 which would further help embed the language development of the two teachers and in turn the implementation of the 1+2 Approach.
The impact on the staff of Riverside Primary will be huge as our two teachers will have the opportunity to develop resources and help support other teachers within Riverside Primary. The impact this this will have will inevitably have an effect on the learners in our care who remain at the forefront of our minds when embarking on these language training opportunities.
