Language Learning, Fun & Games - Methodology for Primary School
Date du début: 1 juin 2015, Date de fin: 31 mai 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Hjallerup School is a school in the Northern Part of Denmark. There are 649 students and 50 teachers. The keywords of the school are: confidence, responsibility, solidarity and professionalism. Our aim is to be a school where the pupils' self-worth and planning-to-action skills will develop, and a school with job satisfaction and to be a place, where one takes a co-responsibility for one's own learning and development. Professionalism is a key word because pupils need skills for the 21st century ,and qualifications to develop self-worth. Competent and well-educated people are important today. With the new school reform in Denmark, August 2014, English is now a subject in the Primary School. The students are now 6-7 years old when they meet English in school for the first time, earlier they were 8-9 years old. These younger students need a different pedagogical/didactical approach. The teaching must stimulate the linguistic attention, strengthen the production of language and give linguistic self-confidence. In order to do this the teaching needs to be based on a creative approach, where you produce language and experiences in a safe and positive learning environment. Our teacher needs to have expert training so she can get a better understanding of primary language teaching and expand and build on her current knowlegde, and get an introduction to new areas of teaching methods, contexts and develop teaching skills. The school has different objectives for this project. First of all the school wants to develop the teacher's linguistic skills and give her a better understanding of primary language teaching and an introduction to new areas of teaching methods. The school wishes to share the experiences with the other teachers and with schools in the neighbouring community. It is also an objective to make contact with other European countries and English speaking countries in order to establish future partnerships. The new school reform and new curriculum give the students the possibility to become better students and better language learners, which in the end will provide them with better chances of using English national and globally in their futures lives. The teacher involved in this application has been a teacher for 13 years and has much versatile experience in teaching children of all ages from 8-16 years old. English is a very important subject to her and throughout the years, Dorthe has always strived to improve her own language and teaching skills with utmost dedication. She has a great interest in the Primary School age-group and in the way the students develop their linguistic skills in a safe environment. Dorthe also seeks the possibility of expanding the school's network and finding new partners and international contacts. She has a great interest for special needs teaching and is aware that the number of children with varying learner needs is increasing in each class, making it essential for special needs training. The Primary course in Malta will give many possibilities for learner differentiation. Dorthe is very motivated and has a great desire to always upgrade her own teaching in order to create the best environment to develop self-worth and competence. These skills are needed in today's society - both globally and locally. When students feel safe and confident in the English lessons and with the English language, it is easier to make contact with other English speaking students in and outside the classroom. The teacher involved wishes to share the acquired knowledge with other teachers when she returns, both in our school but also in a regional network with English Teaching. The group is called Engelsk Netværk Nord and is a group of English specialists who are committed to making a difference in English teaching in Denmark. Dorthe has a great willingness to share the experience upon return with this special group. The school has identified ETI Malta as the organisation which will be providing the training/activities on the project. The expected impact when the teacher returns from the course: - a better understanding of the Primary Language Teaching. - previous konwledge has been expanded. - a throughly tested range of practical methodologies. - a better reflection on the teaher's own teaching methods, contexts and teaching skills. - an awareness of technology and ICT in the classroom today. - an exchange of pedagogical information in a multi-cultural context. - a development and improvement of the teacher's own langauage skills - an experience of the cultural heriage of Malta with its biligual linguistic environment. - an increasement of the capacities, attractiveness and international dimension of the school, so that the school is able to offer activities and programmes that respond better to the needs of individuals. - a more modern, dynamic, committed and proffessional environment inside the organisation, ready to integrate good practices and new methods into daily activities.
