In a rapidly changing world teachers of modern languages are obliged to constantly develop and enlarge their skills in order to meet the challenges at school. They have to analyze and enhance their knowledge with respect to language performance, cultural studies, didactics and methodology and in particular intercultural competence. In this context, the exchange between teaching personnel that has been influenced by their respective cultures, school systems as well as their value systems is essential. Together we can much more easily reflect on what we do on an everyday basis and realize the aim of improving our teaching and at the same time to further the idea of a united and equal Europe. It is far easier to be innovative if we share our knowledge as well as our notion of what should be achieved. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary that we approach our European partners in the spirit of openness and tolerance thus creating dialogue and understanding. Professional training courses for teachers of languages are an ideal occasion in order to make experiences of that kind and they are very frequently the starting point for a lasting exchange between individuals who teach at school on a European level. Particularly in the current era, that is characterized by a various challenges, must we continue to live the European dream with all the necessary consequence.
