PROJET
TERMINÉ
« La Rose des Vents » is Boisgervilly’s primary school. One hundred and ninety children attend the school. The setting is predominantly rural and far away from Rennes, the nearest main town, which is the centre of cultural activities in the region.
The school teachers try to include cultural matters and citizenship in their teaching strategies in order to make up this fact.
That’s the reason why the teaching staff want to develop a familiarization with foreign language, starting from the youngest pupils in school.
Boisgervilly’s pupils have been learning English at school from the CP (first grade primary), where in most schools the teaching of english only begins in CE1 (second primary grade). Likewise, an introduction to Anglo-Saxon civilization will start in nursery school.
This project has led to a reflection on effective ways of teaching English.
Teachers have decided to :
• Develop authentic communication situations for pupils
• Encourage the pupils to become future European citizens.
• Prepare the school to enter the digital age. It will be important for the pupils to master new means of communication and information technology.
To reach these three objectives we want to start à twinning project between Boisgervilly and another European small town.
We held a meeting with the person in charge of primary school matters at Boisgervilly town hall and a school teacher, who is a European project coordinator. The mayor himself was keen to lauch a twinning project with another European town. Boisgervilly’s municipality will use the European Twinning platform and the CCRE’s organisation, the council of European Municipalities and Regions, to find a partner.
Teachers can now start planning for an exchange between La Rose des vents and a European primary school, which accepts to communicate in English.
Several exchanges could be created in the different classes of the school, with the twin town, but also with others English-speaking European schools. This will be the first step in opening up Boisgervilly to Europe.
To succeed in this project with every grade of the school (nursery school, and primary grade), and in all the forms, we have to ensure a good command of English by every teachers.
This is why two members of the teaching staff are requesting language training in addition to their self training. This will help us to teach languages in their classroom.
The requested training also includes a methodological part, allowing innovation in educational practices.
Digital and technological tools (electronic mail, eTwinning platform and video conference), already accessible in the school and others to come shortly (every classroom will be equipped with ITW), will be devoted to authentic and rewarding communication situations for the pupils.
This training session will bring these two colleagues to be the coordinators of the project (one for the nursery school, and one for the primary school), regarding the linguistic, civic and technological objectives of the school correspondence, and more widely the twinning between Boisgervilly and an English-speaking European municipality.
