The project will last 6 months and it will bring together 40 young people (20 from Spain and 20 from Italy), aged from around 18 to 22, 4 groupleaders from Spain and Italy. Among them 10 young people(10 for Spain and 10 for Italy) facing economical and social obstacles and cultural differences.The planned activities include: the organisation of two preparatory visits to be held in Italy (January 2016) and Spain (May 2016); the organization of an international meeting lasting 6 days, in March 2016, in Reggio Calabria (Italy) and one of 6 days, in June 2016, in Valencia (Spain) to share and exchange experiences related to street music and popular dances. In addition, local meetings for the transverse action of promotion and dissemination of the project, webconferences and the use of the modern ICT for data and information exchange will be implemented.The objectives of this youth exchange are to explore the potential of music and dance as universal languages and effective communication tools that can bring together people form different cultures, social habits, languages etc. In particular wewill look at folk music and dance which have been performed on the road for centuries, bringing close people coming from afar, inorder to search for common roots that unite our different cultures. Topics of the exchange are folk music and dances as vehicles ofknowledge and therefore of interaction and integration between cultures.The activities will take place in a picturesque rural setting and will consist of music and dance laboratories, carried out also with thehelp of professionals, and of itinerant street performances that will take the participants from village to village simulating the life ofbuskers or travelling artists and interacting with the local communities.At the end a concert and dance performance will be held in front of the local community with folk music and dances from theparticipants’ countries.All activities will be focused on intercultural learning and implemented by means of non formal education that will help developyoung people’s cooperation, solidarity and tolerance by raising awareness of a common cultural heritage. With this project, in fact,we do not only want to compare the different sounds and movements of europeans, but what we want rather to achieve is thejoungsters' perception of the differences and contact points that the various artistic expressions bring into evidence and, wherepossible, the common cultural roots and common core values.
