L'Europe à l'école

The school is located in rural surroundings; therefore the international openness is rather limited. There is only a very small cultural mix and our town doesn’t have any twinning program with any city abroad. Therefore we would like to bring our pupils a greater openness on the world and thus have them discover other cultures.Moreover, teaching English would be enriched if the teachers were better trained linguistically and methodologically. The teachers haven't had any language training at all since the end of their studies, and thus wish practice English, enrich their vocabulary and improve their phonological level to be more comfortable in class.Three teachers would like to participate to the mobility program :- A kindergarten teacher wishes to be qualified to teach English- Another kindergarten teacher, and a primary school teacher, who are qualified to teach EnglishThe rest of the teaching staff supports our project knowing they will benefit from it. In order to achieve our goal, we would like to take part to a methodological, cultural and language training provided by the SILC organization in Malta. This training lasts 2 weeks long and takes place during the Autumn Half-term Holiday. A steering committee has been formed in order to setup a file and follow up the project. A presentation will be made at different times to the Teachers board that will then be able to assess the quality of the actions and the reaching of the objectives. We expect this project to improve the pedagogy offering a language awareness as early as kindergarten and a daily practice in primary school. Our purpose is to introduce children to this language so that it becomes a real tool to communicate with others. We also wish to provide all the pupils a greater cultural openness as well as to implement specific actions such as a pen friends program with an English school, making a presentation of the European countries with the pupils, workshops about different lifestyles, etc.Our long-term objective is to provide a European dimension to our school as well as to develop the English teaching at the early stages of basic education.
