The main aim of the project was conducting the apprenticeship abroad by secondary school students of hotel administration and gaining experience in the area of hotel industry. The title of the project „Kształcenie zawodowe poprzez doświadczenie ponadnarodowe” was connected with that aim. Finally the project selected 18 teenagers of grade 2 and 3 of the secondary school of hotel administration. North West Academy in Londonderry (the United Kingdom) was the institution which allowed our students to conduct the apprenticeship.
Another very important ability for hotel technicians are English language skills. During the stay in Ireland students had a chance to learn this language better especially on the communicative level and they became motivated to learn this language in the future.
As a part of this project we assumed a number of different aims, which we have done so far, for instance:
-learning history, culture, religion, habits of the partner country,
-improving professional and social skills,
- improving mobility of the project’s participants and enlarging their competitiveness on the European and the national labour markets,
-creating particular attitudes of the students: inspiring and strengthening entrepreneurship, competitiveness, self reliance, openness, tolerance facilitating performance of learned profession in the country and abroad and managing unusual situations.
Above aims became advantages which were acquired during the apprenticeship by students and they belong to the so- called soft deliverables.
Acquired hard deliverabes of the project:
- passing professional training , conditioning, i. a. promotion to a higher,
- receiving an Europass mobility document that describes exactly what the benefits and additional training has reached a participant serving his apprenticeship.
- confirming professional experience in CV;
- receiving certificates confirming completion of the apprenticeship,
- receiving language certificates confirming completion of professional language course,
- receiving Trinity College London certificate confirming passing the exam. Our partner from abroad organized an extra language course and an exam for our students.
Achieving the above benefits and obtaining the results of the project were made possible by carrying out the following project activities:
- formulating expectations towards the partner including for example the programme of the apprenticeship. The confirmation of our cooperation was receiving the letter of intent,
- signing a contract with a partner for the realization of apprenticeship
- the recruitment process for the project in accordance with accepted principles contained in the Regulations of the recruitment project,
- preparing the monthly stay programme for the group. Participants of the project could choose trips and additional attractions,
- carrying out classes which prepared students to depart. Students took part in English lessons, culture studies, psychological ,pedagogical and organizational classes connected with departure. They also took part in lessons about history and culture of Nortern Ireland. Students prepared an artistic program presenting our region.
- signing agreements with the participants of mobility and learning agreements and commitment to quality assurance,
-fulfillment of other documents enabling to choose the place of apprenticeship. Before leaving students had to prepare a lot of different documents (CV, health cards) and they had to write an English test. Test questions were sent from Ireland and the scans of answers were sent to evaluate. According to the test results students were located to different employers. Conversations through skype with representatives of employers and the supervisor of the apprenticeship were made.
-completion of the apprenticeship by the students and implementation of additional tasks according to the program,
- disseminating results of the project in different forms. The participants of the project prepared the review from their visit to Ireland on the school website. After the ending of the apprenticeship students presented multimedia presentations to sum up their apprenticeship during the Day of Vocational Apprenticeship. Information about the conducted apprenticeship were put on the school website and on numerous Internet portals.
