Date du début: 31 déc. 2015, Date de fin: 30 déc. 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The project entitled “Bilingual education in Boguchwała” is a part of the European Development Plan of The Secondary School in Boguchwała, being the only school in the Subcarpathia region providing bilingual education, which caters for specialised English in several areas of study, stimulating students’ versatile development and enabling them to shape their own future. Therefore, School’s basic need is to increase teachers’ skills and qualifications regarding bilingual education and methodology applied in teaching process. Since the School’s objective is specified by an innovative approach towards teaching, let alone developing language competence, using English in teaching all subjects but the native language, promoting foreign languages and initiating international model of education is the School’s priority. Consequently, it is of high importance to enable the teachers to familiarise themselves with new methods to apply in teaching students at the European level. It is teacher’s mobility abroad that accomplishes the aim. The actions covered in the Project are designed to increase teacher’s language competence in order to broaden School’s educational offer via giving the students new option of subject to study in the bilingual system. Enhanced attractiveness of the lessons and higher motivation for studying thanks to new teaching methods applied will, undoubtedly, lead to the increased level of education in terms of English and other bilingual subjects. Moreover, the project focuses also on the school’s plan to develop international cooperation and gain new international partners, so as to enable both students exchange with other countries and teacher trainings abroad. All the participants of the project are teachers in The Secondary School in Boguchwała, who will take part in a range of courses conducted by well-known professional teacher training schools in the United Kingdom and Portugal. The types of courses will be adjusted to the teachers’ needs, while the participants are divided into four groups. The first one consists of four subject teachers, having at least B2 English level and qualified to teach their subjects bilingually, namely geography, business basics, biology, information technology, and mathematics. Although they are qualified to conduct their subjects bilingually, they only undertook this approach in September 2013 or 2014. Thus, requiring additional language support, they will initially attend a language course (Intensive English), and, only afterwards, CLIL Methodology course (Content and Language Integrated Learning) and Bi-Component course, allowing the teachers to observe their subject lessons carried out in British school and Job Shadowing in Portuguese one. The second group comprises four teachers preparing themselves to bilingual teaching of the following subjects: biology, security training, physics and cultural studies. First of all, they will participate in a language course, so as to be more confident to attend CLIL Methodology course. Subsequent group includes foreign language teachers of English, German, French and Spanish. Two English teachers will take part in EFL Methodology in Practice course so as to enrich both their language and methodological skills. All teachers listed above will observe their language lessons in English and Portuguese teaching environments. Additionally, one subject teacher and four language teachers will partake in Building Learning Power course, which aims at educating teachers on motivating students to individual work and learning. The fourth group of participants includes the associate headmaster and a secretary, who, apart from language courses, will attend School Leadership courses, enabling them to compare various European educational systems. All the above-mentioned courses will increase the teachers’ qualifications and indicate the European importance of the school, setting high standards of teaching English, and incorporating new methods and techniques of bilingual education, which will, therefore, increase the students’ motivation in their learning process. Not only will international cooperation act as an incentive to take up new projects and start students’ exchange, but it will also cater for the exchange of experience and developing tolerance towards other cultures and traditions, offering excellent prospects of students’ education abroad. The Project also facilitates the future long-term development of the school, setting up the expanded educational offer with the choice the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
