This training is positioned in the context of civic education and Social Sculpture and explores the relation of Dag Hammarskjöld’s thinking and value in and for the sphere of a European dimension of education. It also explores what his ideas toward the shaping of a humane and viable community have in common with core ideas in the field of social sculpture and how they can be taken forward by such understandings. Hammarskjöld (1905-1961) who was the Second Secretary-General of the United Nations dedicated himself 1951 to a european mindset (Dag Hammarskjöld: "Att välja Europa", in Tiden 1951) and he bridged some habitually maintained contradictions by an elegant cosmopolitan point: „The question is not either the nation or the world. It is rather how to serve the world by service to our nation, and how to serve the nation by service to the world“. Qualification in this field doesn´t mean to define the term European Dimension nor to missuse it in the way of a semantic space shuttle for whatever; it is rather about giving guidance to sources of european and cosmopolitan thinking and to learn how to sculpture it in local and international context. The idea of Social Sculpture relates to an expanded term of art which bases the modelling of social processes on individual spirituality, world-openness, creativity and fantasy. The participants in the training are employed resp. free collaborators of Europahaus Burgenland who often contribute to exhibitions, conferences, the construcion of a cosmopolitan library and encyklopedia as well as to the cosmopolitan garden.
