Primary School Gbeľany is a school situated in a small village, but we try to be modern and international. The main communicative competence of our school is to encourage our students to make an open-minded ,accomplished and effective communication. One of the ways how to improve the competence is our project which includes a two-week course at Regent Oxford School in Oxford in the UK. We have selected one participant - an English teacher. The course Overseas Teacher Refresher Programme is focused on methodology, teaching workshops and English for teachers. It is an intensive course made up of 50 hours and course extras. The aim of the course is to update participant´s knowledge in English teaching methodology, share her experiences as a teacher, exchange her ideas on teaching English and hone her English language skills. The participant and her students will prepare a questionnaire for teachers attending the course to get some information about their culture, traditions and success and problems in their schools. She will also prepare a presentation about our school and region. The main objectives of our project Let´s communicate with the world is : - to acquire new and effective teaching methods, ideas and skills which will help our students study English better and communicate successfully abroad, - improve of language and communicative competence, - increase students´motivation to use English, - improve cultural education focusing on different European countries and better awareness of EU values, - cooperation with other schools The expected impact : 1. on the institution : - to bring new modern ideas and experience to our school, -possible international cooperation with other schools in the future, - to gain better credit among students as well as parents, -to create positive work environment at school, - to get some experience for preparing another similar projects 2. on the teachers - to grow professionally and personally, to create new materials for teaching, 3. on the students - to motivate students to study and communicate in English, to get some knowledge about other cultures and to respect them, make new friends abroad. The potential longer term benefit is to implement newly gained knowledge into the curriculum and lessons to prepare the students for studying, working and living in EU and to become well-educated Europeans.
