Teaching Comptences and Values -two Challenges for TeachersAs member of the UNESCO school network BRG Wels focuses on value education in European and international context. The key areas BRG Wels concentrates on are pedagogic concepts to support highly gifted and talented students in all subjects. Especially the two branches offered at school - natural sciences and practical and theoretical sports education try to enable pupils to reach their best. The project comprises two activities - firstly sturctured teacher training courses for language acquisition and method training and secondly job shadowing activities.In these job shadowing activities teachers want to study value eduaction in Haus Overbach, Germany, and at Colegio Santo Domingo Savio, Spain. By doing so the teachers want to develop tools at BRG Wels to teach and transmit European values. Both partner schools are based on the philosophy of Franz von Sales. At the Spanish school two female teachers will take part in lessons and in extracurricular activities to get a practical insight into value education and they will study the bahaviour agreements at school. This is also true for the two teachers who visit Overbach. Moreover Overbach offers long-term experience in supporting highly gifted pupils in natural sciences. The methods , knowledge and experience the two young Austrian teachers can acquire by the exchange with the highly experienced teachers in Overbach will foster the advancement of talented pupils in sciences at BRG Wels. The structured teacher training courses are firstly designed for language acquisition of the teachers at BRG Wels, because BRG Wels cultivates social contacts to many schools in Europe and in India, takes part in Erasmus+ partnerships and wants to develop a new Eramus+ KA2 project in the field of sport. Furthermore BRG Wels hosts unaccompanied minor refugees and supports them with an education in German and with social contacts. In order to be able to carry out these tasks teachers learn Italian, Spanish and English. Secondly the structured teacher training courses in English provide teachers of English with methodology an didactics to enable them to introduce these methods in their lessons to boost modern didactics and the support of highly gifted children. Furthermore teachers of music, biology, sport attend Englisch courses to acquire the ability to teach parts of their lessons in English.All scheduled activies will have considerable impact on the school development process at BRG Wels. They will help to position BRG Wels as a school at which internationality, excellence promotion in talented students, education in democracy and politics, up-to - date methodology and didactics as well as the aim of instilling value based education are really implemented.
