Technology, especially the information Technologies has been growing at an incredible pace and has become a field that affects each and every interaction of human beings. All electronic devices; be it a simplest calculator or a robot that does surgery, are the products of information technologies. This field then offers an extra-ordinary opportunity to the youth in Europe not only to develop themselves and increase their competitiveness, but also to find new employment sources. When coding, the computer literacy to put it simply, has the potential to open up countless new gates to the young people of Europe and it is also fun. Genç Hayat Foundation, having the target group of young people between the ages of 11 and 18, has analyzed the need of young people to gain awareness about the subject and also to learn more about information technologies. So, the Foundation has put working on this issue with young people to its strategic plans for the coming years as a long term goal. The Foundation has the experience of working with youth for more than 7 years and many different projects now and there are also many different scale ongoing projects of it. What it does before entering a new field if to research by having meetings with the experts of the subject; from academicians to private sector employees who know about and work in this subject. CoderDojo Turkey and Genç Hayat Foundation met during the process of research and CoderDojo is a movement that facilitates coding workshops for young people, they both wanted to work in this together and then met the one and only technology lab of Turkey; Başakşehir LivingLab. Lastly CoderDojo Timişoara from Romania which holds similar workshops to CoderDojo Turkey in Romania joined the project partners and the idea of having a coding camp in Turkey during which disadvantaged young people will come together. These institutions intended to have a camp as a project activity in which young people from two countries will spend a week together raising awareness about coding and information technologies in general, developing both personally and about intercultural learning, hearing about and understanding the European ideals like active citizenship and participation. They will also increase their creativity while working together and share experiences together with developing their language and digital skills. The camp will take place in October 2015 in İstanbul and while all the partners agree on the proposed date, Başakşehir LivingLab will host the workshops and training and will also offer technical equipment like computers, internet connection etc. Other relevant stakeholders will also learn about the project and is planned to offer support, like Başakşehir Municipality, it will provide shuttle bus service from the center of the city to Başakşehir LivingLab which has a location a bit outside of the center. The content of the training will cover coding for beginners with the applications like HTML, CSS, Scratch and Python and also trainings about the subjects like brain and memory, volunteerism, social responsibility, communication and design. Non-formal methods will be used in almost all these trainings, so that the participants will add their experiences and creativity to the project. Formal methods will be beneficial for just few of them but again the participants will be included in the process. 12 participants will be from Romania (10 young people, 1 trainer and 1 group leader) and 12 from Turkey (11 young people and 1 group leader), 3 coding trainer that are involved in CoderDojo Turkey workshops, 1 trainer of Genç Hayat Foundation in order to give the trainings on related subjects and 1 moderator from Başakşehir LivingLab to hold a workshop on design using legos will participate the project, 29 people in total. The young people will be between 12 and 15 years old and will be chosen from young people who are willing to join CoderDojo workshops but cannot because of the economic problems. These 29 people will join to an online platform from the beginning so that they will keep in touch for further projects. The outcomes and results of this project will be the awareness that young people will raise on this subject and also on working together. They will be motivated to learn more and develop themselves on ICT and they will learn its importance in both their personal life and future career. They will also receive trainings on subjects like social responsibility, volunteerism, communication which will raise their curiosity and guide them towards European ideals. They will also gain knowledge on learning to learn by assessing their knowledge given through the project. Lastly they will gain experience in peer education as a method, so that the effect of the project will also be multiplied.
