Knowledge for future integration of marginlaised and disadvantaged citizens

Education in prisons remains one of the most pressing issues in Europe, since theimportance of quality education in European prisons is still not fully recognized.Education is not adapted to the needs of prisoners, as it does not include distinctivesocial and psychological features of this social group. Furthermore, not enoughemphasis is put on motivation and identification of the actual needs and wishes ofprisoners. Moreover, prison education fails to meet the demands of the labour market. At the same time quality education is hampered due to a lack of quality educationprogrammes and e-material which do not enable an interaction and thus not take intoconsideration specific features of this social group which needs more motivation andparticular education methods and approaches. A successful reintegration ofmarginalized groups into the society and the labour market is one of the most crucialquestions and problems facing the modern Europe. Up to now, the skills thoughtEuropean prisons have been manly traditional ones for which there is a very limiteddemand in the labour market. The project is to develop a new approach to prison education. It will introduce aconceptual framework for the development of alternative educational methods, approaches and tools for a successful reintegration of marginalized groups into thesociety. The project is based on the identification of skill shortage occupations in theeconomy (tool industry). A basis for education is therefore undersubscribed jobs forwhich prisoners will be educated. To provide an effective education programme andensure a successful implementation of the project the project partnership will: cooperatewith prisoners to determine their needs; undertake a socio-psychological analysis whichwill help choose an appropriate approach to prison education; develop elements ofmotivation. The tutors who will work with prisoners will be introduced to an integratedway of learning (traditional and e-learning) with the emphasis on 2D and 3D simulations, which enable greater interactivity and independence in the education process.
