In view of the various challenges affecting forests and forest ecosystem management (natural & climate change, natural hazards, econom. crisis..), the precious natural heritage of forests & the forestry sector in alpine spaces are becoming increasingly endangered. In order to deal with these challenges, the self-organised cooperation & coordination of all involved partners in the field is indispensable. The cooperation in knowledge- und know-how exchange & trans-national measures is necessary to keep the natural heritage attractive, its management economically profitable, & to guarantee its protection. A preferably broad participation of all stakeholders is required. KnowForAlp develops a joint communication platform & implements innovative measures of knowledge transfer: the networking of 19 partners from seven nations secures an effective & broad exchange of knowledge- & information as well as offering much needed decision support for the complex management of forest ecosystems.
