According to data, approximately two million children are highly gifted and talented in Turkey. Considering the population of the world, the ratio of the gifted children is around %2,5-%3. With reference to that information, there live between one million and seven hundred and fifty thousand to two million and one hundred thousand gifted children in Turkey. This statistic doesn't change from nation to nation but we don't have any information about this significant majority in terms of the place where they live, what they do and the education they get. In our country, mainly two institutions named TEVİTÖL and BİLSEM make scientific educational reseraches on gifted children and these special educational institutions use WISC-R as a tool in order to identify the gifted children. Apart from these, there is no specific educational system for gifted children in our country. Accordingly, it is an obligation for these gifted children to have teachers knowing the characteristics of them and the kind of education that they need to get in nursery school, primary school and further stages. To diagnose these children and direct them accordingly is highly significant for the gifted child's both personal and social benefit. In order to fulfill the needs of these gifted children, different educational programs should be developed and applied. These children may have various talents but they need to be discovered and educated otherwise they will be lost without being recognized.
