KFUM Umeå's and PeaceWorks' summer EVS
Date du début: 1 mai 2016, Date de fin: 30 avr. 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Many young people in Sweden are facing increasing inequalities and social as well as economic segregation has become more evident during the years, affecting vulnarable groups in society in general and children and youth in particular. In this context KFUM Umeå- an organisation targeting the interests of children and youth - work for the right to recreation and the importance of self development and stimulating activities through arranging summer camps every year. Through enabling four young European participants to volunteer at KFUM Umeå´s youth summer camps during four months, this project aims to increase the awareness of how to work including and empowering with children and youth. Moreover, while volunteers gain competences that benefit themselves personally and professionnally the target group - the children and youth of the camps - will increase their understanding of and communication with other cultures and people. The tasks for volunteers are to help camp leaders to arrange and organise activities of the camps like games, excursions, sports, trekks and other recreative activities. Volunteers will have responsibilities in practical tasks as janitors and assistant chefs. Volunteers have close cooperation with the leaders and get support through regular meetings as they work together on a daily basis. In a mutual way the involved people in the project will get valuable experiences including areas such as intercultural understanding, cooperation skills, increased self-confidence, leadership skills, pedagogic skills and language skills. On a personal level as well as on a societal level, these types of learning experiences will have a direct and/or indirect impact on the social environment and foster positive attitudes towards different cultures and people. In the long run it encourages the creation of a European society where youth are active and confident citizens who participate in creating positive changes in a society marked by solidarity and cooperation.
