KERKA-VÖLGY KINCSEI

The main goal of the project is to strengthen the growth of natural values and raise environmental awareness among both the locals and visitors of the region, which would also contribute to the preservation of the abundant natural values of the border region. The goal was to record the state of ecologically interesting habitats and landscape values, and to build an informational network between different sectors for natural heritage protection. As for the cross-border effect, the partners familiarized each other with their national Natura 2000 systems and along with activities connected to the promotion of national networks. Achievements: A botanical and zoological field analysis of habitats in the Kerka Valley was conducted through several seasons, and based on the Slovenian experience, a database was created to present the most typical species, along with the “Economic and Infrastructure Strategy Focusing on Nature Protection in Kerka Valley. The natural treasures of the Kerka Valley were presented in a conference entitled Focus on Nature Protection, during professional consultations, a study tour, seasonally-designed tourism tours, and in various publications. The natural values of the areas along the Mura can also be seen through programs and publications.
