Kaunas Biennial TEXTILE'11: REWIND-PLAY-FORWARD is based on the concept of [con]textualized motion in time: past, present, and future. Visual art exhibitions under the notion REWIND will be revitalized by the contemporary dance and performance program PLAY, and intertwined by workshops, emerging artists' shows and international conference program titled FORWARD. Exhibition REWIND HISTORY, based on historical and educational aspects, will propose its program in several European countries - Lithuania, Estonia, Germany, Portugal, etc. Competitive exhibition REWIND PERONAL STORY will highlight the narrative aspect - personal or invented stories materialized through textile media will be installed into Kaunas museums and non-traditional spaces, which also will become the unique scenography for dance theatre plays. REWIND INTO THE FUTURE program will present the smart and high-tech textile novelties and stress on experimental and collaborative aspect: lectures, online video presentations from scientific labs, workshops with scholars and artists will let participants touch and be touched by high technology world. Contemporary dance and performance program PLAY will consist of internationally lead workshops and theater shows interrelated with REWIND (visual part of biennial) and will be realized through collaborative work among visual artists, choreographers, performers, smart-textile designers, and members of Fluxus network. Future-orientated program FORWARD will become the conceptual space where research, education and science meet: (i)16th ETN conference, which gathers more than 200 textile professionals from art, design, science, industry and even medicine fields and (ii) International students' and emerging artists' exhibition. Biennial interlinks more than 300 direct participants: artists, scholars, designers, performers, curators, volunteers, cultural workers from more than 20 countries and unites more than 20 cultural institutions for creative collaboration.
