Cojc wants to organize in the small city Zwiesel at the South-East Bavarian boarder with The Czech Republic the summer-Theatre-Academy “Kaleidoskop” for 60 young Czech and German participants, originating from the Czech-Bavarian Boarder, as well as some young refugees who currently live in Zwiesel. The purpose is a week-long celebration of the encounter of two cultures: historical neighbours who merely cross the boarders for shopping or tanking up, and hardly meet there somebody at all. Instead many people still cultivate prejudices or just lack interest at all. KALEIDSOKOP aims to fill up vacant buildings in the city centre with theatre and play and to challenge the young participants in their creativity to do so; at the same time those activities open up new spaces in the minds of the inhabitants of Zwiesel. About 30% of the buildings in downtown Zwiesel are empty, testifying the exit of the young generation and extinction of the retail trade. One of the concerns of the Summer Academy is to counter this trend. The project lasts 6 days. The project offers public presentations of the various groups on 4 evenings of the week and ends on the last day with site-specific performances and a farewell party. The core of the project is formed up by four groups of 15 participants each (German - Czech mixed in the age group 15-27 years, including 1-2 refugees, who live in Zwiesel). They will work in enclosed workshops daily on a pre-selected topic. The central topics are: "Heimat (home)" - "beneath the surface: fears of the Zwieseler population" - "Everyday Casino: the pursuit of happiness" - "In the magic land: the struggle between good and evil". Each group is led by a german Czech Čojč drama teachers/language animation tandem. The Central workshops are embedded in other activities that take place in other group mixes: daily language-courses, physical morning practice and large groups-experiments in the evenings. The group is staying in the same house and takes all meals in the group context. All participants acquire basic knowledge in the respective foreign language German or Czech: pronounciation, small talk, the Czech Vocative etc. In daily Theater training they are learning about the use of nonverbal communication and intercultural teamwork. They expand their soft skills: communication skills, self-confidence, empathy, teamwork, ability to take and give feedback, self-discipline, curiosity/openness, conflict resolution skills. They experience themselves as European citizens with common values and similar manners – wherein they invite the refugees to take part in. Participation and representation are given methods in the field of intercultural language theatre pedagogy, they form the basis of all methods used at the Academy. At local and regional level we expect support from residents, clubs, pupils and students, a strong perception of the entire Academy and a lively participation in the public program. This applies across the border, because Zwiesel is situated only 15 km as the crow flies from the Czech border and the PR will be operating on both sides of the border. On a national level we hope, that our work will be perceived as leading for other border regions and will be implemented in other border-regions as well. Between Austria and the Czech Republic a new initiative has already started who takes “cojc”(which signifies the mixture between the languages German and Czech) as a Model. If we succeed in spreading our work, we expect to send out impulses that will continue broadcast in further regions.
