The main goals that Nova College strives for within the Erasmus program and internationalisation is for our students and staff to enlarge the understanding and knowledge of other cultures and to gain work experience within, and in some cases outside, the EU. Also, to look critically towards themselves, their education and the company culture they experience abroad. By obtaining and discovering new competencies, improving their social and language skills, living and/or working in another culture and in multidisciplinairy teams, we believe students will enlarge their chances on the labour market and staff will be able to keep on learning for a life time. Within our international programs that students can participate in, periods differ from a week upto over 5 months. The period that staff is abroad also differs from 2 days upto one month. A large amount of participants are able to participate thanks to the Erasmus program. Within this project 215 mobilities were carried out.
Most students who participated follow their education on level 4, a few from level 3. Outside the program students and staff participated in visits abroad (e.g. seminars, study weeks) for periods that differ from 4 days upto little less than two weeks.
The impact that participation in an international program has on both students and staff is that all parties are meeting new challenges and experiences which are being shared within the lessons, on social media, on the schoolyard and at home. All these new ideas will broaden the horizon not only of the participants, but also from the ones who stay at home or the ones who still have to decide to become an exchange student. The professional work experience which is obtained abroad, will enable students and staff to compare their own way of work within the Netherlands and share ideas with colleagues and fellow students from the country they visit. Some students call it "a life changing experience" or "a motivation to study further in Higher Education" or "a must for all students". Ofcourse, students have encountered being homesick or were not satisfied with the flat they live in or found difficulties by making themselves understandable in another language. But they also found out that these difficulties will learn them just as much, or even more, than they have learned at the school or company they stay with while being abroad.
All these experiences will give long-term benefits within the international programs, but also within internationalisation@home and it is seen by students from all levels. To give an example is that in Call 2015 we started a pilot within the excellence program where students participate in pop-up schools abroad, where level 2 students can participate as well. Our excellence plan was sent to you with the application for Call 2016. Also, online programs within eTwinning have been set up and carried out with level 2 and 3 students.
Witin all departments of Nova College (Economics, Healthcare, Technique and ICT, Sports) students carried out assignments and products and finalized exams where possible and received BTEC certificates.
