The project consists of two subprojects in the field of agribusiness, one for learners (VET learners in companies) and one for vocational training staff (VET learners in vocational institutes). Subproject for learners (VET learners in companies): Young farmers from Lower Saxony send out to Europe. The internationalisation of vocational education is not very strongly developed in the field of agriculture. This project wants to improve and wants to offer young farmers the opportunity to gain experience abroad, gain and improve their intercultural and linguistic competencies and extend their professional knowledge. Lower Saxony is among the top regions in the field of agribusiness throughout Germany, this applies to livestock production as well as to crop production. There are other regions throughout Europe that hold a similarly outstanding position in these fields. This is where our young farmers shall spend their study abroad period. The Chamber of Agriculture in Finistère/France and the vocational school Bojanowo/Poland were won as partner organisations. Due to the special structures of the apprenticeship in family businesses with usually just one apprentice at a time and an annual change of company, it is impossible for young farmers to spend a study period abroad during their apprenticeship. Here Erasmus+ offers participants the opportunity to spend a study period abroad until up to one year after finishing the apprenticeship. This opportunity should be made use of in this project. Participants need at least one year of professional practice for their further career. This applies to attending a technical college for two years as well as to attending the school of master craftsmanship in agriculture (a minimum of two years of professional practice is required here). By taking part in the Erasmus+-Project participants already cover six months of the required professional practice. A one-week preparatory course is also part of the study abroad period. This course serves to prepare the participants linguistically and interculturally and to get to know each other. After the preparatory course the participants are sent directly to their internship placements that are provided either in France or in Poland. The companies for the internships will be chosen by the partner organisations, the partner organisation will also take care of the participants’ support on site. After the internship all participants will meet again for a two-day evaluation seminar. The project’s aim is to create a basis for the participants to gain - international professional agricultural expertise - international vocational action competence - intercultural competence as well as - general and specialist language skills Subproject for vocational training staff (VET learners in vocational institutes): The Chamber of Agriculture Lower Saxony organises around 600 vocational and educational training courses like seminars, workshops, specialist conferences, excursions, field days and demonstrations with around 30.000 participants every year. On the one hand this event programme is very successful; on the other hand however too little account is taken of the ever growing internationalisation of agribusiness, the thinking and acting mostly remains within the borders of Germany. Our farmers’ trade partners however are more and more often internationally operating firms, not only on the procurement side but also in sales. This is where the subproject for vocational training staff (VET learners in vocational institutes) is meant to apply: two of our employees who are responsible for the field of further training are sent to Poland and France to meet up with their respective colleagues to - gain an insight into the local further training management - define and discuss the latest top issues regarding further training management - establish new contacts for a future exchange of research consultants.
