Jovenes en Accion Alcublas
Date du début: 1 mai 2016, Date de fin: 30 sept. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Our Belgian coördinator met the youths from Alcublas while travelling. Alcublas is a small remote village in the mountains with very few opportunities for young people. There are not many jobs and most of the young people go to live in the big city. The youths in Alcublas do have a lot of talents and knowledge, but they don't have the proper environment to develop their talents and realize their dreams. When the Belgian coördinator started talking with them about the possibility to organize a group exchange, some youths of Alcublas were very enthousiastic to join the project. It was their dream that one day something like this would happen in their village.None of the participants have a job. Some participants are still studying, others don't have a proper degree and are looking for work. They don't have an income and live with their parents because there is no other choice. They have a low standard of living. They receive no support from social security.Choosing the theme was easy: 'Creating your dream'. We started the project by asking the 10 Spanish participants: 'What is your dream?'.The youths had similar dreams about discovering and using their variety of talents and knowledge and share them with other cultures. We want to give them the opportunity to realize these dreams and to develop their talents. The participants in Alcublas chose the following activities for the project, building of their various skills and talents: organizing historical local guided tours, organizing a local herbwalk, building a clay oven, organizing an archery workshop, organizing a batucada workshop, organizing music exchange, organizing Spanish and Belgian movie nights about the ecology theme and finally making a film of the group exchange. Then we looked for a Belgian group, with the Spanish needs, dreams and activities as a base. We found 10 young people from various backgrounds. Some of the Belgian participants are working as a youth worker and have lots of experience in working with young people. Others in the group are unemployed. They don't have a degree and they are dependent on the social welfare system. Some participants get budget counseling. They have economical problems. One participant is a single mother with social and economical obstacles. She never gets the opportunity to travel. The participants are in need of personal development and productive ways to use their time. They also want to create their dreams and share their talents and knowledge during this project. They chose these activities: building a sweatlodge and a cleansing ceremony, making natural welness products, recycling garbage to make art, yoga workshop and woodwork workshop. Results / Impact / Longer term benefitsThey gain knowledge in specific disciplines and self-development and strengthen key transferable skills which are highly valued by employers. We hope participants will have more self-confidence and more opportunities of finding a job.We share all our gained experience with the habitants of Alcublas and the youths of VZW Jong in Ghent. We exchange knowledge for example about recycling. We want to increase awareness about throwing garbage."The more we share, and with the more people, the better off we are as a whole."(makesense.org)On the final day we invite all the young people and habitants of Alcublas. We make an exhibition with the art and objects we made and talk with them about the project. We want to motivate the young people in the village (they all have fewer opportunities) to participate in future projects. In Belgium we then present the project to another group of young people with fewer opportunities, in the non-profit organization VZW Jong. We also invite them to participate in a group exchange. We create networks and gather ideas for future projects.Next year the participants want to organize a group exchange in Belgium. It's the dream of all Spanish participants to travel. This is also a part of 'creating a dream'. We want to go on with discovering and developing talents during next projects. We want to be a starting point to realize a lot of dreams and organize a lot more projects. We want to contribute to a positive public perception of group exchanges and encourage wider participation in this EU program.
