The majority of Europeans spend at least nine or ten years at school. It is where they gain the basic knowledge, skills and competences that they need throughout their lives, and the place where many of their fundamental attitudes and values develop.Schools need to set people on the path to a lifetime of learning, if they are to prepare them adequately for the modern world. A sound school education system also helps ensure open and democratic societies by training people in citizenship, solidarity and participative democracy.Education ministers from EU Member States have set themselves 13 specific areas for improvement in national systems, including the education and training of teachers, key competences, language learning, ICT, math, science and technology, active citizenship and social cohesion.The project is a best practice example for joint cross-border plan that promotes school exchanges, school development, the education of school staff and school assistantships. With the help of the project, a common cross-border guide for education was developed, in order to set the basis for future co-operation and unification.During this project, a series of mutual teacher class visits took place, related to different curricula areas, between Bocskai István Primary School and Girisu de Cris Secondary School. After having these exchanges, teachers participated to a seminar where University teachers discussed methodological issues. Then, in a 2-days seminar, teachers came up with a Draft of Common Good Practice Guide. Based on this guide, 2 summer camps were organized, one in Romania for Hungarian students and one in Hungary for Romanian students, where teachers from both sides of the border could practice the methods described in the Guide. After these camps, there was a final meeting, where the final version of the guide was prepared. This Guide was published in 1000 copies, 500 for each side of the border. It was disseminated to all schools in Hajdu-Bihar and Bihor counties and School Inspectorates.General objective of the project is to bring together cross-border communities in order to facilitate their common development. Specific objectives are connected to establishing conditions for common sustainable development in educational area as well as developing common educational platform in order to develop human resources.The target groups of the project are the students from the 2 schools (240 in Girisu de Cris and 389 In Bocskai István Primary School) and the teachers involved, as well as students and teachers from the cross-border area, school inspectorates and pedagogical institutions.
