Lithuania borders on Latvia; our Zidikai Marija Peckauskaite secondary school is near Kalnu secondary school (only 30 km). Our institution would like to keep in touch with Kalnu secondary school and develop sustainable communication across the border. Now both Latvia and Lithuania are the members of the EU, therefore, this joint project could help to revive communication between two schools in the neighbourhood. The language of the ancestors, the historic past, the national cultural heritage- these are the things which will always link two nations of the Balts- Lithuanians and Latvians. With the help of this project we are seeking to activate the cultural communication of towns and cities in the borderland of Lithuania and Latvia, at the same time preserving the Baltic roots of both nations, showing the regional traditions to the public, maintaining the national folklore, ethnographical distinctivness and the authenticity of the habits and traditions. This joint project would be a good chance to translate ideas into actions. Sharing experience between two educational institutions about the cultural similarities and differences, participating in ex-change programmes , organizing joint festivals and trips would be the priority of this joint project and a great opportunity to develop and strengthen cooperation across the border. Latvians would be our partners and we would be able to organize common activities such as various conferences, seminars, festivals, trips, exhibitions, meetings, studios and creative laboratories. The implementing of the project would be more difficult without learning the Baltic languages, i.e. Lithuanian and Latvian. That is why the exchange programs of the teachers and students will help to solve this problem.The development of a joint project between two regions would help to create the attractive atmosphere of the communication and to increase the human-resource capacities. Expected Results: The teaching material will be prepared for improving the speaking skills of students and teachers and will be used in all the workshops for learning the Lithuanian and Latvian languages. The program and methodical material for teaching the Lithuanian language will be prepared by the teachers from Kalnu secondary school and the program and methodical material for teaching the Latvian language will be prepared by the teachers from Zidikai secondary school. The cultural activities, festivals will even more attract the young people in the borderland and will help to develop other cultural initiatives. For that purpose "Bards' festival" and "The modern folklore festival" will be organized. Kalnu secondary school will be responsible for those festivals and they will take place in Nigrande. 4 exhibitions will be organized which will help to reveal the peculiarities of the Aistian culture. Zidikai secondary school will be responsible for organizing all the exhibitions. 2 exhibitions of the works of jewellery will take place in Zidikai and Nigrande. 2 exhibitions of the works of the art studio will take place in Zidikai and Nigrande. 1 arts studio with involved innovative educational methods will be organized in Zidikai. The students will be able to get more knowledge about silk batic, graphics, construction, stained glass and other kinds of art.
