JOIMAN - Joint Degree Management and Administration Network: Tackling current issues and facing future challenges
The success of the Erasmus Mundus Programme worldwide, together with the scheduled implementation of the Bologna Process, pushed the European Universities to reserve to the development of joint curricula a special place in their internationalisation strategies. European Universities have been involved in double/joint programmes development since the mid nineties, however the Erasmus Mundus Programme has brought a substantial change in the “philosophy” connected to joint programme creation and administration, focusing the attention on the concept of consortia didactical and administrative integration. At the present, after 4 years of Erasmus Mundus life, the 468 universities involved in the 103 EM consortia have faced most of the administrative and management dilemmas. Some of these dilemmas have been effectively solved, while for some other there is still the need of additional talks, discussions and good practices exchange. The aim of the JOIMAN Network is to improve the management capacity of the network components and of all European Higher Education Institutions, in the administrative implementation and management of Joint Programmes at Master and PhD level, within and outside the EU. This objective will be achieved through the exchanges of good practices and with the knowledge transfer between the 15 universities which compose the network. The exchange of practices with other HEI in Europe will be fostered by the participation of the 3 Erasmus Mundus National Contact Points which are full members of the Network. The network will produce, during the two years of the project life, a number of publications on good practices in administrative management of Joint Programmes and in particular: Good practice report on administrative procedures of Joint Programmes, on the financial sustainability of JP and social cohesion, on the quality, organisation and services in JP, on the implementation of joint PhD programmes and on the implementation of Joint Programmes with non UE institutionsThe Network will have a deep impact on the improvement of quality of Higher Education Institutions in Europe and outside the EU. The project’s outcomes will be available to extra – network institutions and will be disseminated through the existing HE networks and students’ networks.
