Project „Foreign languages and ICT – school’s way to success” that we would like to conduct in Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński Gimnazjum no 4 in Tychy from 1.07.2014 to 30.06.2016 is a project of school’s development in 3 areas – 1. enhancing the level of teaching languages, especially English, 2. enhancing quality of lessons by using information and communications technologies, 3. international cooperation. Our school has some achievements in these areas. We have bilingual classes, where students have English lessons 5 times a week in groups and from the second grade they learn biology, chemistry, citizens and family studies partially in English. However, we want more subjects to be taught in English and we assume that the project will equip teachers of Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Arts in qualifications to teach their subjects in English. In the area of ICT we have a school system of monitoring lessons with these technologies but we still need tools and new and attractive methods which would enhance the quality of the lessons and would get students and teachers’ positive feedback. Our school has good experience in international cooperation, however, we need commonly developed policy of project management. We want more teachers to be involved in the projects and we plan to achieve it by enhancing language competences as well as social and organizational skills. To achieve these objectives the school has planned the following actions: a language course in Malta for 7 teachers – in level groups, a CLIL course in the United Kingdom for 6 teachers, 2 job-shadowing actions – for 8 teachers in Spain and 7 teachers in Turkey. Both job-shadowing visits will focus on observing lessons, especially of languages, lessons taught partially in English (Spain), ICT lessons, computer studies. The visits will also focus on meetings with teachers and students, exchange of experiences, workshops on project management (Turkey) and ICT for teaching and learning (Spain). Altogether 28 teachers will take part in the mobilities – there will be teachers of Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Arts. The projects participants will be chosen in the process of recruitment, whose rules will be announced to all candidates. Teachers interested in taking part in the project will submit a letter of application and it will be examined by the recruitment committee. The main criteria the applicants need to meet are: motivation for learning and using CLIL and ICT as well as involvement in works on common school strategy of using these methods in lessons. The project will be run by a coordinator and a coordinating team. The tasks and areas of responsibilities will be divided between members of the team. A designated person will be in contact with partner institutions and schools. The coordinator will be responsible for preparing contracts with the schools and institutions and for monitoring how both sides follow the contract rules. Designated teachers will be responsible for transport, insurance, participants’ support, accommodation. The project will be monitored systematically and the actions will be improved on the basis of gained experience. Participants will share their experiences and knowledge with their fellow teachers after coming back from mobilities. Together in subjects groups they will develop a system of using new achievements in an institutional way at school. The system will be monitored and improved. The results of the projects will be: more lessons taught partially in English in bilingual classes, enhanced teachers' competences and qualifications, a better project management policy. These achievements will also help teachers enhance their self-assessment, motivation to work, job satisfaction and they will prevent burnout. They will improve the quality of teaching and motivate students and their families to learn foreign languages and develop information and communications skills. With better motivation students will achieve better exam results and they will have more chances of being accepted by higher secondary schools of their choice. We plan to disseminate project results among teachers from other schools by organizing meetings, sharing our experiences and knowledge gained at the CLIL courses and job-shadowing visits. During the meetings we will present our system of implementing new methods. We will provide several open lessons and share our collection of tools and worksheets. We will inform parents of our students and applicants about our achievements.
