The JMCEGovernance will focus on the impact of the EU transfers of recipient countries’ governance structures. Faced with the reality of a persisting economic crisis, it is all the more important to seek a more coherent and truly inter-disciplinary approach that would promote knowledge and expertise. The JMCEGovernance project sets the aim of thoroughly researching and publicly debating issues of multilevel governance, and in particular the management of EUSF at the crossroads between EU institutions and governing structures at the national, regional and local levels. The JMCEGovernance project brings together innovative ways of studying, teaching and debating EUSF issues. A systematic and inter-disciplinary approach through the lens of Economics and Political Science offers new insights to the modus operandi of institutions involved in the multilevel nexus of governance effects, and in the meantime forward-looking perspectives with regard to challenges ahead. Policy shortcomings in multilevel governance may be attributed to decision-making sites at different levels as well as to a range of factors. Hence, there is strong affiliation to a comprehensive literature on multilevel governance in the EU, and study results will have important academic added value. At present bibliography in EUSF appears fragmented under different discipline perspectives and specific cases. Hence, a more coherent approach will lead to a broader understanding of shortcomings and challenges for policy planning and implementation. Unprecedented as the Greek case may be, it should rightly be conceived as a distinctive case-study from which we may gain considerable evidence on complex policy issues valid for studying European integration as well as for preventing similar problems in other member states.In particular, the project sets the aim of advancing relevant topics in EU studies in order: • to interlink study approaches, • to bring together policy experts • to open-up public debate.
