We are five schools from different parts of Europe (Czech Republic, Poland, Cyprus, Croatia and Spain) drawn together around a common problem that we are experiencing in our schools - low student motivation and lesson participation, their decreasing capability for effective learning and declining responsibility for their lives and studies. Our schools are fairly well equipped with digital technologies, but they are not being used to their full potential and students are bored with conventional and traditional lessons. In view of these facts we have decided to join our experience and work collaboratively to find fresh and innovative solutions to these problems. Our aim is to enhance the impact of modern ICT tools on the learning process and develop students´ social skills. We want to transform the learning/ teaching process into something more enticing with the use of multiple and varied digital tools, materials and approaches which will be developed through different activities of the project. We will assist students´ active participation in discovering more effective and enjoyable learning methods through collaborative project work and cooperation. Further, motivate them to participate in the wider society by developing their social skills and encourage them to be more active in achieving their personal goals in life. We as teachers aim to find innovative and effective teaching tools that we will be able to integrate into lessons. The name of the project, “IT or not IT?”- Reaching our goals equipped with modern tools, highlights our main goal: to enhance the impact of modern technologies on students learning and social skills development. All activities of the project are focused around these 5 key goals: 1. Knowing others better - knowing myself better 2. Effective, enjoyable, collaborative learning 3. Developing our interests using ICT-based tools 4. “Back to the future” - investigating how ICT has changed our live and how it influences our future. 5. My digital country – My digital Europe Student teams will prepare presentations pertaining to each one of the goals using different ICT tools. The usefulness and practicality of ICT tools used will be assessed and evaluated though questionnaires, oral/ written feed-back, blogs, diaries and open discussions. The new software with documentations and evaluation will be added to the “bank of ICT tools” on the project website. Regular evaluation and monitoring of goal achievement and task fulfilment will be done by country coordinators. Social skills activities will be developed through local and international student groups that will cooperate and communicate through blogs/ vlogs and social media. During school visits students will participate in different workshops, social and free-time activities incorporating ICT tools. Learning will take place inside and outside the classroom in the wider community. The activities will help students develop language and communication skills, problem/conflict solving, team work, behaviour in diverse situations and awareness of European diversity. The results of the project activities are first of all increased ICT, social and language competencies of students and teachers. Each individual participant will reflect on his/her own style of learning, working and communication with others. Development of social skills will help improve student social involvement and cooperation. Participants will become open to new ideas, and gain a better knowledge of other cultures, lifestyle and education of partners. The project will impact students and teachers enrich their learning/ teaching with new activities, new methods of acquiring knowledge, but also improve their social involvement and cooperation which will contribute to creating a better school environment. They will gain more confidence in using ICT tools and share their experience and gained knowledge with others through various means. The physical outcome of the project will be the “bank of ICT tools” presenting practically explored tools, the website presenting all stages of the project, the DVD recordings of the main activities and the samples of the results attained with several ICT tools, devices and applications. The availability of the material for future use and reference will make the effect more enduring and will inspire more schools to put importance on involving the ICT-based methods in social and personal skills development. Results will be disseminated to relevant target groups. Each partner school will have a project coordinator responsible for management of the project. They will distribute tasks and responsibilities to their school project teams and will monitor the accomplishment of all activities. Our team has all the expertise necessary to carry out this project, linguistic skills, ICT knowledge, good interpersonal skills and a team spirit, our work thus far has been well organised to achieve putting this application together.
