ISCAN – Improving Skills, Competences, and Professional Qualifications in the area of Network Information Security for IT Managers and Staff in the Public Sector

Vulnerability of IT systems is the target weakness for the partners of the project: the promotion of transparency for skills and competences with a view to enable transfer of qualifications within the EU, the development of a common information security qualification is one of their wider aims. The ISCAN main objective is to address the present skills shortage in the European ICT industry and to promote the transferability and the recognition of competences and qualifications in the ICT security field by developing new standards and measures; the partners specifically aim 1) at developing a certification standard to enhance skills and competences in latest IT security issues of IT managers in public organizations, 2) at elaborating specific training modules in the field 3) at reducing the risk that the organizations smooth functioning could run if IT managers and staff do not respond to security threats with efficiency and effectiveness. The contents of the planned training modules specifically concern privacy, integrity, availability of information assets under the custodial care of staff and managers; the concerned organisations often being ministries, banks, local governments, universities, public and governmental research institutions, but also electronic communication networks, service providers, electronic commerce companies, manufacturing industries, hospitals, a new wider aim of the project is to provide systemic and competent actions to fight a variety of access attempts of illegal nature.
