Context/background: The elementary school of Athienou is in the rural area of Athienou village in Larnaka, Cyprus. The school for the academic year 2014-2015 has 164 students , 1 principal, 3 assistant principals, 11 teachers, 1 logo therapist and 1 secretary. The educational change and the new Curricula that have been introduced to elementary education in Cyprus brought to the school new challenges and the need for introducing creativity and innovation to the school environment. Objectives: the school has identified that now is the time to introduce innovation in order to meet the needs of the New Curricula and the demands of the new idea of school. The main areas of improvement that have been identified focus on: 1) the reinforcement of the teaching process through the effective use of technology, 2) the knowledge of innovative teaching approaches and best practices for using ICT in the classroom 3) the familiarisation of our teachers with ICT tools, 4) the integration of ICT tools and digital resources in the teaching process, 4) the elimination of the resistance to change and 5) the promotion of creative thinking on behalf of the teachers (as designers of learning experiences). In order to meet the aforementioned areas of improvement our school with this application, supports the participation of the teachers in training activities organised within the framework of Erasmus + . These training activities give to the educational staff of our school the opportunity to acquire knowledge, to develop several skills and also to meet, share experiences, to discuss and express their opinion about the new educational challenges and methods with other colleagues coming from different European educational systems. The involvement and the participation of the educational staff to trainings will be considered as the main step towards gaining I.C.T. knowledge and expertise, that will enhance the development of the school unit. Number and profile of the participants: Three teachers will participate in the training framework. The participant teachers will be selected by the principal and the three assistant principals. The principal and the three assistant principals, will support the participation of teachers who are: 1) actively involved to the efforts of the school in introducing I.C.T . to the teaching process, 2) willing to collaborate in a multicultural environment and 3) willing to share their experiences with their colleagues upon their return. For the final selection, the principle and the three assistant principles of the school will be responsible. Consensus should be reached among all the stakeholders. Description of activities/methodology: Three members of the teaching staff will attend seminars relevant to the objectives of the development plan of the school. In addition to that, teachers will have the opportunity to discuss their knowledge and experience of how to integrate I.C.T. in the teaching process, new I.C.T. tools etc. during regular staff meetings. Lesson plans and teaching observation on how to integrate technology in the classroom, will be developed and organised among the teaching staff of the school. The training courses, that teachers will attend, have a preparatory and a follow up phase in addition to the actual training phase. Throughout the training teachers will be handled in different modes: as lifelong learners participating in real world, participatory learning activities, b) as teachers implementing innovative and/or creative practices in their classes, c)as reflective practitioners (comparing and contrasting) on their current practices and d) as researchers collecting, examining and interpreting data about their practice and their students’ learning. Results and impact envisaged: The impact of the course is that it will support the European development plan of the school, in the sense that it will help the school to develop I.C.T. knowledge and expertise in the teaching process . Teachers of this course will not only support the innovation of one school unit but in the long-term, they will form a Pan-European network of change agents and innovators that will be sustained and expanded after the end of the course.
