The project “io attivo” by Association Nova sport is focused on the local reality of youth of the Province of Catania (a reality fragmented and not participative in the social, cultural and political dynamics) and on local youth policies. The main objectives of the project are: to strengthen the dialogue and the cooperation between the different youth organisations of the city; to promote the active participation of young people in local democratic life; and to encourage the dialogue between young people and local institutions. Participants in the project will be 60, of which 50 will be young people under 30 years; besides the experts in the field of youth and the representatives of local institutions, the young participants will come from the local youth organisations (as representatives of organizations or youth workers, volunteers, trainers, educators, etc.); not-organised young people will also participate in the project. The main activity of the project is a national youth meeting at local level, that offers a space for information, discussion and active participation of young people, the dialogue with the representatives of youth policies on issues related to the topic of participation in democratic life, the structured dialogue and the EU Strategy for Youth. The meeting will take place in Catania, september 2015. Methodology used during all planned phases of the project will be based on the principles of Non-Formal Education, and planned working methods include: group dynamics to facilitate knowledge and trust among participants; activities based on creativity; activities based on group learning; simulations; working groups; facilitation activities oriented towards obtaining a shared result; frontal presentations. The activity programme also includes some formal meetings with local institutions and visits to local youth organizations working to promote the active participation of young people at local level. The project will have a direct impact on young participants and the local youth organizations, providing them with tools to promote the active participation of young people, helping them to reflect on the needs of youth from Catania and Sicily bringing them closer to local institutions and fostering dialogue with representatives of youth policies, in a broader empowering process. The applicant hopes that in a long term perspective, the closer relationship between the local youth organizations and between them and the institutions that the project aims at fostering, may lead to the establishment of a Virtual Youth Forum.
