Internship in Northern Europe to be prepared for the future

The participants of the project are twelve vocational students of the technical department (professions: mechatronics; facility mechanics = plumbing, heating, ventilation and airconditioning; metalworkers specialized on trailer manufacturing; electricians). The apprentices are at the beginning of the third year of education and have succesfully passed the interim examination. The participants are carrying out an internship of three weeks in selected finnish and islandic companies. The activities have been chosen according to the curriculum valid for each profession.Besides gaining subject-specific skills, the participants are extending their language, social and intercultural comptetences. Basis for that is a comprehensive preparation performed as an integrative language course.Monitoring will be achieved by a continous contact with the local collegues and by visiting the participants during the internship. The results will be collected by a two part questionnaire and after the return of the apprentices evaluated and published.The apprentices and the enterprises will participate by the gained specific skills. The reputation of the apprentice inside the enterprise will increase. The growth of social and intercultural competences will have a positive effect on the internal life of the enterprises and in dealing with customors. Last named will also profit of an increased language competence. The enterprise can present itself as an innovative place of apprenticeship and perhaps profit when when acquiring new apprentices. The cooperation of the invloved partners will be strengthened for future projects.
