roject background: The Secondary Technical College (HTL) cooperates with companies which send their engineers to their subsidiaries abroad. Company Zizala - China, Czech Republic, Mexico; Company Doka - Singapore; Company IFE, Czech Republic ...
Objectives: As a first step two CLIL teachers attend special courses to improve their language for technical purposes and their pedagogical skills and to broaden their knowledge of CLIL methodology. They share their knowhow with other teachers and are enabled to prepare our students for their work in an international setting.
The Project is an integral part of the school's quality management scheme and the HTL quality mananger, DI Eckhard Gussmack, shall evaluate the project. The two participants will attend the courses and complete the training programme like any other official teacher training (classified as "official journey"/Dienstreise).
Results: Content and Language Integrated Learning (Teaching) at our school will be balanced between language- and content-based meaning negotiation. Improved methodology will be achieved. A training focus on acquisition of theoretical knowledge of the professional discipline and the cultural and personal skills needed in an international and intercultural setting will be established.
Long-term: All CLIL teachers will participate in programmes which are designed to lead to "internationalization" of the vocational training and education which is provided by the HTL. The compulsory 72 lessons/week of CLIL teaching are the basis of the development of a higher degree of internationalization at our school. In addition to the CLIL teaching in English a better methodology will be developed which is adjusted to the needs of our students (years of education: 11 and higher). The methodology must also be adapted to cope with the high level of theoretical knowledge of the professional disciplines that is reached at the Secondary Technical College (e.g. plants and machinery design and automation).
