We started our English lessons in 2011 for all groups. Each group has 60 minutes per week in their timetable for English. During the lessons the speaking language is English. In the lower grades it is mainly communication and understanding of English. We use different pedagogic methods, mainly interactive with the children. From the 6th grade we also learn to write and speak the language. Children in the 7th and 8th grade use a languageportfolio; in this portfolio children are busy with tests and the main objective is to reach a A1 level. All teachers know how to use English sources to prepare their lessons. Leading topic in our lessons is the digital method Take it Easy. During 2011-2013 many of our teachers have been to Canterbury to join the course: Classroom English. During the next two years 6 of our teachers will be going to Canterbury for the level 1 course and 8 teachers wil be attending the level 2 course. These are teachers who teach in all groups. During this course we learned how to use a variety of pedagogic methods to use in the classroom. The subject of English is submitted in our policydocument. In the past few years our teachers have also been attending several different workshops and conferences. In the next few years CLIL education will be introduced at our school. The need to attend a course in Canterbury for this type of specific education is high. In June 2014 a cooperation with secondary education (highschool) started; English teachers teach grammar lessons to 8th grade pupils. Goal is to reach a continuous development from primary school to secondary education.
