Internationalisation of the curriculum
Date du début: 1 juin 2015,
Date de fin: 31 mai 2016
In regard to the prerequisites of our students, considering their social status and therefore their declining possibilities to compete at the world of employment, it is highly needed to open new possibilities for those students. They are in need of establishing their own cultural background successfully by accepting other cultures in order to be able to stop defending themselves and start to move forward. This project is going to help our students and their teachers to take the given bilingualism and start using it as an advantage, i.e. in learning a third language. One of the accompanying teachers has worked on this topic during her first state exam by writing her final paper about “the effects of bilingual education and socialisation on school and professional careers” and is
therefore specialized in this area.
Considering the teachers, the project aims to enable the school staff to raise their professional qualifications, to improve the educational process, integrating the skills acquired through mobility, and to expand the opportunities for European cooperation in order to modernize and internationalise the curriculum.
The project mobilities will involve three teacers who specialize in different areas: educational program development (Ms Cali) , international project management (Ms Raabe & Ms Nemtsa), inclusion of children from different cultural backgrounds (all three) and teaching German/English/French as a foreign language (all three).
The main activities:
the teachers will take part in a course "A classroom with a door to the world" in France provided by NGO Kulturos Kiemas in collaboration with Vytautas Magnus University and Kazimieras Simonavicius University, Lithuania.
Project methodology responds to institution strategic and European development plan - in all phases of the project participants will focus on raised objectives and apply their knowledge in their work, enabling positive changes in the school organisation: innovation of curriculum, methodology and ICT. At preparation stage, the participants emphasize the cooperation with other colleagues abroad and develop their ICT skills.
During the courses participants will focus on the target competencies, knowledge and skills, while the follow up will uptake reflection, improvement and dissemination of good practices.
Project management is oriented to quality - with clear procedures: engaging eTwinning programme tools for the smooth execution of the project, providing participants with monitoring techniques and principles, setting clear terms. This will help to ensure the quality of the project in order to achieve envisaged project goals.
Expected results of the project:
All three participants will adapt the project in terms of their preknowledge and their expertise, so that the real outcome will be greater than the “plain” results of the project. That is also the way they will disseminate the outcomes – the entire staff will repeatedly have the opportunity to acquire new knowledge from all three participants. This way the chances are higher that the results will be adopted eagerly and will be implemented sustainably into the school curriculum. The participants will acquire and improve not only general educational competences, but also will absorb the various inclusive approaches involving children from different cultural backgrounds in the educational process, develop their computer literacy, will gain a broader and inclusive understanding of education programs in the European context, acquire knowledge and the ability to plan and carry out international projects, improve communication and collaboration skills working with international partners, and improve their foreign language skills.
The long-term effects and benefits:
It is expected that the three teachers have a significant impact on the experience of all the employees - using new methods, changing the learning environment, developing an international curriculum - significantly will improve the quality of education in our school. We hope that the participants will become more open to change, the modernization of the educational process and internationalisation of school curriculum and will be willing to share their knowledge and disseminate best practices in the school, the city and in the country.
