International Music Week
Date du début: 1 mai 2016, Date de fin: 30 sept. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The "International Music Week" (IMW) is an international youth exchange that takes place in Ettelbruck (L), bringing together around 60 young participants ages 13-25 year olds from different European countries (Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain and Portugal), around the theme of music. Its aim is to broaden the horizons of the participants and enable them to participate in European integration by bringing them in contact and collaboration with young people and leaders from other European countries.Activities include: music workshops; tours, presentations and discussions about the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg and the region; the discovery of other European countries through presentations and discussions conducted by the young participants; presentations and discussions on the European Union; and non-musical workshops (sport, theatre, dance, multimedia or other leisure activities). In this project, music is used as a method of integration to allow young people with different backgrounds and origins to quickly connect within a multicultural group. The theme of the music also allows young people to become aware of the deep interactions between different European cultures and to recognize the importance of pluralistic identities in and for the evolution of Europe. The IMW promotes the values of encounters, cultural and linguistic discoveries as well as human and musical exchanges between the young participants and the public. Moreover, the practice of music within an orchestra, a choir or smaller chamber music ensembles - is a typical example of communal work that brings together young people from different backgrounds and origins. These young people - who due to different educational and musical teaching systems from one country to another, have different educational and musical experiences as well as very different ways to play music - must develop a sense of belonging to the group, to harmonize and create homogeneous ensembles. During the musical workshops, emphasis is therefore placed on the practice of playing together (and not on the individually), in order to succeed to form homogeneous ensembles - a symphony orchestra, a choir and small chamber music ensembles - despite the differences in cultures and teaching structures that exist between the different groups of participants.
