Interkulturelles Lernen in einer Alternativschule
Date du début: 7 sept. 2015, Date de fin: 6 sept. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Freiraumschule Kritzendorf is a private school based on the concepts developed by Rebeca and Mauricio Wild. Stimulating environment, Montessori equipment and intensive support by teachers allow for open and self-determined learning processes. The curriculum includes among other things intercultural learning and learning of foreign languages. With opening hours from 8:00 to 16:00 the school also offers day care for the children. Leisure activities are in line with the philosophy of the school. The main motivation to host international volunteers is to promote the tolerance between different cultures and traditions, to encourage young people to learn about cultural distinctions, to develop the understanding to be European and to deal critically with nationalism. All parties involved benefit from European Voluntary Service: Volunteers as well as pupils are involved in this learning process. Teachers and parents of pupils participate in daily experiences with the project. Since 2001 our school has hosted volunteers (one each year) from different countries like France, Belgium, Spain, Hungary and Turkey. The volunteer should be prepared to react to the curiosity and creativity of the children rather than confront them with a ready-made program. It is indispensable that the children are treated with respect and as self-reliant personalities. Knowledge of, and experiences with, “alternative” educational concepts may be of advantage but is not explicitly required. The volunteer should be interested to share her or his cultural knowledge and should have a special interest in languages. Knowledge and experience in teaching his or her own language however is not required. The host organisation expects that the volunteer is curious about the Austrian society and culture and is interested in learning or improving German. In general, Freiraumschule is looking for volunteers who love to spend time with children and youngsters and who have something to offer to them, be it in the field of music, theatre, poetry, sports, cooking, photography, painting, astronomy or any other area of culture and human knowledge.
